Day 17: Good news and bad news

B's on vacation, so I'm taking over this week with the goal of keeping the plants alive. So, first some good news:
This spinach seedling really shot up!

The Chadwick Cherry tomatoes are looking hardy.

And there is another one coming up! Can you see it?

Ahem, now on to the bad news. The chia tomatoes were so abundant that B decided to try moving some to another pot two days ago. But I don't think they are going to make it.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to do some more thinning before B gets back. Can I handle it?

Day 15: Holy bruschetta, Batman!

After being out an extra day over the weekend, I was shocked at what I came back to.  First, all of our first planting is looking robust.
50 shades of green.

Lettuce really needs a haircut.

A second lavender has joined the team.

These tomatoes are HUGE.
We also discovered a ton of activity from the tomato Chia pot.  On Friday, there was just one seedling, but today, there are many many more!  Guess we'll have to replant or weed some of them!
We still haven't seen anything from the Chia jalapeno or the Chia peppers yet.
Even our spinach and aster are growing already!

At this point, we'll definitely have to consider moving some of our seedlings to another type of pot since they are very crowded in their small containers. Once we have them settled, they might find a new home in the Science annex (our outer office area) so they can be enjoyed by the students.  We'll wait and see.

Day 11:TGIF

We've finally seen something from the Chia pots!  There is a tiny tomato sprout.
Chia tomato!
We also decided to add some spinach, squash, cucumber, and aster to our list of holdings.
It seems like our second round of planting is off to a slow start.  We haven't seen anything from the Chadwick cherry tomatoes, the sweet peppers, or the 2nd kind of carrots we planted.

Day 10: Checkup time!

Today we had a visit from The Plant Whisperer, LF.  She is an experienced gardener and she is offering us advice on our newest library collection!
Unfortunately, The Plant Whisperer does not give out lollipops or stickers to her patients.
Our progress so far.

So close, you can taste it.

Tiny basil buds.

Lots of chives.

The tomatoes are even bigger!
Really, lavender?  Out of all the seeds we planted, only one is going to come up?
Pretty much everything is growing now, except the recently planted Chia pots, peppers, and tiny tomatoes.  We will plant another round today, since we are pretty confident about our skills after The Plant Whisperer's visit.

Day 9: More stuff happens

It's official.  The carrots are coming!  It seems like all of a sudden, most everything is popping up, from lavender to tomatoes and chives.  Still nothing from the Chia pots or peppers yet.
More chives have appeared today.

All the carrots are budding.
Look at these powerhouse tomatoes!

Carrots on the left, lettuce on the right.
It's time to start separating out some plants.  I didn't anticipate there being so many little ones!  Since it's my first time growing from seeds, I definitely planted more seeds than I should have!  We'll see how it goes moving them.  I will, of course, know for next time to plant sparingly.  I blame the OU seal for leading me astray!  My dad worked at OU before, so I've seen this logo a bunch.
That guy sure isn't planting one seed at a time.

Day 8: Everything's coming up (tomatoes)

Basil
We've seen a lot of activity this morning!  Tomato has started strong, while basil, thyme, and lavender are continuing to pop up.

We've also seen some new action from the chives and the carrots.

Day 7: New buds!

The lettuce is doing great still, despite us not being around to water over the weekend.

Lettuce looks out over the stacks
We've also got some thyme and basil coming up!
